Flash Flood Warning issued by NWS Topeka KS. Effective from May 31, 2026 at 11:40 PM CDT until June 1, 2026 at 2:30 AM CDT. Severity: Severe. Urgency: Immediate. Certainty: Likely.

Southwestern Coffey County in east central Kansas. Specific locations include Burlington and Gridley.
What You Should Do
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
Expected Conditions
At 11:39 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
