Alert Details

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Charleston WV. The alert is effective from June 18 at 4:59 AM EDT until June 18 at 8:00 AM EDT.

Affected Areas

The warning covers Southeastern Athens County in southeastern Ohio, Southeastern Morgan County in southeastern Ohio, Washington County in southeastern Ohio, and Central Wood County in northwestern West Virginia. Locations that will experience flash flooding include Parkersburg, Marietta, Belpre, St. Marys, Beverly, Coolville, Vienna, Williamstown, Belmont, Boaz, Lubeck, Washington, Mineralwells, Newport, Matamoras, North Hills, Lowell, Lower Salem, Fleming and Devola. Affected highways include Interstate 77 in West Virginia between mile markers 169 and 186, Interstate 77 in Ohio between mile markers 1 and 13, and Route 50 in West Virginia between mile markers 1 and 15.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free 800-401-9535 when you can do so safely.

Expected Conditions

At 4:59 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
