Alert Details
A Flash Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in New Orleans. The alert is effective from 3:20 PM CDT on May 8, 2026, until 6:30 PM CDT on May 8, 2026.
Affected Areas
The warning covers Northern Jefferson Parish, Southwestern Orleans Parish, Northwestern Plaquemines Parish, West Central St. Bernard Parish, and East Central St. Charles Parish in southeastern Louisiana. Locations that will experience flash flooding include New Orleans, Harvey, Timberlane, Marrero, Chalmette, Belle Chasse, Metairie, Avondale, East New Orleans, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Arabi, Terrytown, Bridge City, Woodmere, Elmwood, Meraux and River Ridge. Affected interstates include Interstate 510 between mile markers 1 and 3, Interstate 10 between mile markers 222 and 248, and Interstate 610 between mile markers 1 and 4.

Expected Conditions
Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 1 inch of rain has fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 2 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Hazard is flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
