Flash Flood Warning issued by NWS Tucson AZ. Effective from 3:32 PM MST August 3, 2026 until 6:30 PM MST August 3, 2026. Severity: Severe. Certainty: Likely. Urgency: Immediate.
Affected Areas
South Central Santa Cruz County in southeastern Arizona, including the Pena Blanca Lake region. Specific locations include Pena Blanca Lake and Pena Blanca Road between Interstate 19 and Pena Blanca Lake. Streams and drainages: Tonto Canyon, Peasco Canyon, Sycamore Canyon, Potrero Creek, Santa Cruz River and Sonoita Creek.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
Expected Conditions
At 3:32 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain in the Pena Blanca Lake region. Between 0.75 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. Source: Radar indicated.
