A Flash Flood Warning (event code FFW) has been issued by the National Weather Service Little Rock AR. The alert is effective from May 28 at 10:52 AM CDT and expires at 2:00 PM CDT the same day.
Affected Areas
The warning covers eastern Searcy County, southwestern Stone County, and eastern Van Buren County in north central Arkansas. Locations that will experience flash flooding include Clinton, Fairfield Bay, Damascus, Shirley, Old Lexington, Elba, Fairfield Bay Marina, Choctaw, Rocky Hill, Elberta, Sugar Loaf Recreation Area, Thola, Whipple, Fairbanks, Leslie, Big Flat, Bee Branch, Alco, Arlberg, and Botkinburg.
What You Should Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
Expected Conditions
Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
