Alert Details
A Flash Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in New Orleans LA. The alert is effective from June 16 at 12:15 PM CDT until June 16 at 3:15 PM CDT.
Affected Areas
The warning covers East Baton Rouge Parish, East Feliciana Parish, Pointe Coupee Parish, St. Helena Parish, Tangipahoa Parish, Washington Parish, and West Feliciana Parish in southeastern Louisiana, as well as Amite County, Pike County, Walthall County, and Wilkinson County in southern Mississippi. Specific locations that may experience impacts include Zachary, New Roads, Jackson, St. Francisville, Clinton, Greensburg, Kentwood, Centreville, Slaughter, Morganza, Wilson, Osyka, Norwood, Montpelier, Felps, Spillman, Pride, Wakefield, Darlington, and Easleyville.
What You Should Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
Expected Conditions
Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Hazard is flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
