Flash Flood Warning issued by NWS Blacksburg VA. Effective from June 12 at 7:09 PM EDT until June 12 at 11:15 PM EDT.

Affected Areas

South Central Amherst County in central Virginia; North Central Campbell County in central Virginia; The City of Lynchburg in central Virginia. Specific locations include Lynchburg, Forest, Madison Heights, Bocock, and Timberlake. Streams and drainages include Burton Creek, Harris Creek, Blackwater Creek, Fishing Creek, James River, Dreaming Creek and Ivy Creek.

What You Should Do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. When it is safe to do so, send reports of flooding, including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free at 1-866-215-4324.

Expected Conditions

At 7:09 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 4 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, especially in the city of Lynchburg.
