The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the affected areas. This alert is effective immediately from 3:20 PM CDT on May 1, 2026, until 6:30 PM CDT on the same day.
Affected Areas
The warning covers northwestern Jefferson Parish, northern St. Charles Parish, and central St. John The Baptist Parish in southeastern Louisiana. Specific locations include New Orleans, Hahnville, Laplace, Metairie, Avondale, Reserve, Jefferson, Harahan, Westwego, New Sarpy, Destrehan, Norco, St. Rose, Taft, Ama, Luling, Montz, Boutte, Killona, and Waggaman. This includes portions of Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 205 and 212, and between 215 and 230, as well as Interstate 55 between mile markers 1 and 2, and Interstate 310 between mile markers 1 and 9.

Expected Conditions
Doppler radar indicates thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen, with additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, affecting small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
