Flash Flood Warning issued by NWS Midland/Odessa TX. Effective from August 31, 2026 at 7:50 PM CDT until August 31, 2026 at 10:45 PM CDT. Severity: Severe. Urgency: Immediate. Certainty: Likely.
Affected Areas
Northeastern Jeff Davis County in southwestern Texas and southwestern Reeves County in southwestern Texas. Specific locations include Toyah, Balmorhea, Balmorhea State Park, Balmorhea Lake, Saragosa, Toyahvale and Star Mountain.
What You Should Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
Expected Conditions
At 7:50 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
