Flash Flood Warning issued by NWS Blacksburg VA. Effective from August 4 at 6:29 PM EDT until August 5 at 12:30 AM EDT.
Affected Areas
South Central Halifax County in south central Virginia. Specific locations include Virgilina, Cluster Springs, and Hitesburg. This includes streams and drainages such as Hyco River, Big Bluewing Creek, Dan River, Bales Spring Branch, Big Branch, Bowes Branch, Grassy Creek, Aarons Creek and Coleman Creek.
What You Should Do
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. When it is safe to do so, please send reports of flooding, including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free at 1-866-215-4324.
Expected Conditions
At 6:29 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible. Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
