Alert Details
A Flash Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Peachtree City GA. The alert is effective from May 24 at 9:20 PM EDT until May 25 at 1:15 AM EDT.
Affected Areas
The warning covers southwestern Cherokee County and northern Cobb County in north central Georgia. Locations that will experience flash flooding include Kennesaw, Woodstock, Acworth, Kennesaw State University, Sandy Plains, Oak Grove, Hobgood Park, Sweat Mountain and Kellogg Creek. This includes the streams and drainages of Little Noonday Creek, Little River, Posey Branch, Etowah River, Rubes Creek, Mill Creek, Mud Creek, Noonday Creek, Clark Creek, Kellogg Creek, Avery Creek, Rose Creek and Rocky Creek.
What You Should Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Expected Conditions
At 9:20 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible. Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Impacts include flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
