FFWEPZ The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... North Central Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico... Southeastern Sierra County in south central New Mexico... * Until 515 PM MDT. * At 349 PM MDT, Thunderstorms with torrential rainfall have produced around 1 inch of rain along the south side of the County Highway leading through the Jornada del Muerto towards Spaceport America. Localized flooding is possible, with some rises likely in Rincon Arroyo as well. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Rural areas northeast of Rincon on the highway towards the Spaceport.

What the agency told people to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
