Flash Flood Warning issued by NWS Flagstaff AZ. Effective from 3:17 PM MST September 16, 2026 until 6:15 PM MST September 16, 2026. Alert type code FFW.

Affected Areas

Coconino County in north central Arizona, specifically the North Canyon, South Canyon, and Nankoweap washes downstream of the Dragon Bravo Fire scar. Locations include Saddle Mountain Overlook, Point Imperial Picnic Area, Roosevelt Point Overlook, Saddle Mountain Wilderness, Bert Loper's Boat, Royal Arches, Triple Alcoves, Point Hansbrough, Anasazi Foot Bridge, North Rim Entrance Station, Vista Encantada, Kwagunt Valley and Malgosa Canyon. Highways include State Route 67 between mile markers 609 and 610. The Colorado River between river miles 17 and 21, near river mile 32, between river miles 37 and 47, and between river miles 52 and 57. Numerous camp sites and creeks including South Canyon, Nankoweap Creek, Clear Creek, Malgosa Canyon, Tatahoysa Wash, Little Nankoweap Creek, Awatubi Canyon, Soap Creek, Buck Farm Canyon, Lava Canyon, North Canyon Wash, Nankoweap Canyon, House Rock Wash, North Canyon, Saddle Canyon, Colorado River, Kwagunt Creek and Bright Angel Creek.

What You Should Do

Flash flooding is occurring or imminent downstream of the Dragon Bravo Fire scar. Campers and hikers should get away from creeks and move to higher ground immediately. Stay away or be swept away. Severe debris flow are expected across roads and in remote canyon drainages on the Kaibab Plateau east of State Route 67.

Expected Conditions

At 3:17 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain over the North Canyon, South Canyon, and Nankoweap washes. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible. Life threatening flash flooding ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
