Northeastern Kane County in southern Utah... * Until 515 PM MDT. * At 219 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across areas near Hole in the Rock Road, including Zebra, Peekaboo, and Headless Hen Canyons, plus Coyote Gulch and Forty Mile Gulch. Up to 0.5 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks, streams, slot canyons, and normally dry washes. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Areas near Hole in the Rock Road and the Escalante River, including Zebra, Peekaboo, and Headless Hen Canyons, plus Coyote Gulch and Forty Mile Gulch.

What the agency told people to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
