Flash Flood Warning issued by NWS Salt Lake City UT. Effective from 10:19 AM MDT August 31, 2026, until 1:15 PM MDT August 31, 2026. Severity: Severe. Urgency: Immediate. Certainty: Likely.
Affected Areas
North Central Garfield County in southern Utah and South Central Wayne County in southern Utah. Specific locations include Capitol Reef National Park areas such as Scenic Drive, Capitol Gorge, Grand Wash, Sulphur Creek, Pleasant Creek, and all other dry washes, creeks, and slot canyons.
What You Should Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
Expected Conditions
Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 45 minutes. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Hazard includes life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.
