FFWABQ The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Eastern Curry County in east central New Mexico... Southeastern Quay County in east central New Mexico... East Central Roosevelt County in east central New Mexico... * Until 300 AM MDT Wednesday. * At 853 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Clovis, Portales, Texico, Dora, Causey, Cannon Air Force Base, Ranchvale, Oasis State Park, Arch and Broadview. This includes Highway 60 between Mile Markers 381 and 397.
What the agency told people to do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Please report observed flooding to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
