The notice as issued
* WHAT...This level of heat can affect anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. * WHERE...A portion of Puerto Rico. * WHEN...Until 5 PM AST this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during periods of very high heat indices or high temperatures. This extreme heat event poses a severe threat to anyone with inadequate cooling or hydration. These extreme impacts will be most pronounced across coastal sections, lowlands, interior valleys, and urban areas.
What the agency told people to do
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
