* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Eastern Harrison County in southwestern Iowa... Central Shelby County in southwestern Iowa... * WHEN...Until 100 PM CDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 255 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Earling, Irwin, Defiance, Kirkman, Jacksonville, Prairie Rose State Park, Elk Horn Creek Recreation Area and Manteno Recreation Area. - For flood safety information, visit weather.gov/safety/flood.
What the agency told people to do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
