* WHAT...Urban areas and small streams flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...Western Sheridan County in northwestern Kansas... Thomas County in northwestern Kansas... Western Gove County in west central Kansas... Logan County in west central Kansas... * WHEN...Until 1100 AM CDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 500 AM CDT, emergency management reported heavy rain in the warned area. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Colby, Oakley, Grinnell, Levant, Rexford, Winona, Monument, Gem, Menlo, Russell Springs, Mingo, Halford, Angelus and The Monument Rocks.
What the agency told people to do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
