* WHAT...Flooding caused by earlier excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...The Little Colorado River at Birdsprings. * WHEN...Until 215 AM MST /315 AM MDT/ Saturday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of the Little Colorado River near Birdsprings is occurring. Deadly flooding over low-water crossings. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 730 AM MST /830 AM MDT/, water levels on the Little Colorado River at Winslow have crested but remain above action stage. Flooding will remain a threat downstream of Winslow in the Birdsprings area through tonight. - For Little Colorado at Winslow: At 7:00am MST /8:00am MDT/ the stage was 17.33 feet. Impacts: At 17.0 feet: the approaches to the bridge over the river on Navajo Route 71 near Birdsprings will flood, and Leupp will be within 3 feet of flooding problems. The river will crest at Navajo Route 71 approximately 18 hours after the river crests at Winslow. Minor lowland overflow on right bank at Winslow. - Additional information is available at weather.gov/flagstaff.
What the agency told people to do
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Stay away or be swept away! The banks of creeks and washes are unstable and unsafe during any flooding event. Low water crossings will become dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
