* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. * WHERE...Southeastern Lincoln County in central New Mexico... Central Chaves County in southeastern New Mexico... * WHEN...Until 345 PM MDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 950 AM MDT, New Mexico DOT reported NM Highway 246 is inundated with water and is impassable between mile marker 9 and 73. Flooding is already occurring. - Heavy rainfall that occurred over the past 24 hours will lead to inundation of low water crossings in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Arabela. - This includes NM Highway 246 west of Roswell and NM Highway 368. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

What the agency told people to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
