For the Purgatoire River...including Purgatoire near Las Animas... Minor flooding is forecast. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Purgatoire River near Purgatoire R near Las Animas. * WHEN...Until Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 9.0 feet, Minor Flood. Minor agricultural flooding occurs into low lying areas along the river. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 12:15 AM MDT Saturday the stage was 9.1 feet. - Bankfull stage is 7.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 12:15 AM MDT Saturday was 9.1 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 9.7 feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late tonight. - Flood stage is 9.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 9.8 feet on 06/06/1949. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas.
