Northwestern Pottawattamie County in southwestern Iowa... Southwestern Shelby County in southwestern Iowa... North Central Douglas County in east central Nebraska... Southeastern Washington County in east central Nebraska... * Until 215 AM CDT. * At 1111 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Blair, Harlan, Missouri Valley, Logan, Woodbine, Underwood, Fort Calhoun, Neola, Shelby, Minden, Earling, Kennard, Persia, Modale, Panama, Magnolia, Portsmouth and Washington. This includes the following highways... Interstate 29 between mile markers 66 and 82. Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 20 and 40.

What the agency told people to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
