FFWRLX The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Northeastern Gallia County in southeastern Ohio... Southeastern Meigs County in southeastern Ohio... Northwestern Jackson County in northwestern West Virginia... Northern Mason County in western West Virginia... * Until 515 AM EDT. * At 1122 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Point Pleasant, Gallipolis, Pomeroy, Rio Grande, Racine, Ravenswood, New Haven, Mason, Middleport, Syracuse, Hartford City, Henderson, Vinton, Cheshire, Adamsville, Lakin, Kyger, Letart, Mount Alto and Cottageville. This includes Interstate 77 in West Virginia between mile markers 141 and 143.
What the agency told people to do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.
