FFWOAX The National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Douglas County in east central Nebraska... Sarpy County in east central Nebraska... * Until 300 AM CDT. * At 1146 PM CDT, local law enforcement reported ongoing water rescues near 168th and Harrison. Between 5 and 8 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Omaha, Bellevue, Papillion, Ralston, Gretna, Boys Town, Elkhorn, Millard, Offutt AFB, La Vista, Carter Lake, Springfield, Chalco, Prairie Queen Recreation Area, Walnut Creek Recreation Area, Wehrspann Lake, Zorinsky Lake, Aksarben and Standing Bear Lake. This includes Interstate 80 in Nebraska between mile markers 430 and 454.
What the agency told people to do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
