* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions are expected for several consecutive days with afternoon heat index values exceeding 105 degrees and only limited relief at night. * WHERE...Portions of east central, northeast, south central, and southeast Kentucky. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An extended period of hot and humid conditions is anticipated through at least Friday - with the most oppressive conditions expected on Thursday.
What the agency told people to do
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
