Vehicle Recalls high NHTSA · · United States

General Motors is recalling over 43,000 Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac SUVs because a transmission control valve failure could cause the rear wheels to lock up while driving.

What Happened

General Motors, LLC (GM) has issued a recall for several 2022 model year SUV models due to a defect in the transmission control module software. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the transmission control valve in these vehicles may fail, which can cause the rear wheels to lock up suddenly while the vehicle is in motion.

Which Products Are Affected

The recall involves approximately 43,732 units (with related data indicating a total of 262,392 vehicles across the broader campaign) equipped with 10-speed transmissions and Electronic Transmission Range Select (ETRS). The following models are affected:

  • 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe
  • 2022 Chevrolet Suburban
  • 2022 GMC Yukon
  • 2022 GMC Yukon XL
  • 2022 Cadillac Escalade
  • 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV

Why This Matters

If the rear wheels lock up while a vehicle is being driven, it creates an immediate and significant risk of losing control, which increases the likelihood of a crash.
