Affected Areas
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, Central Plateau and parts of North East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central North and Midlands Forecast Districts in Tasmania. Locations which may be affected include Strahan, New Norfolk, Bothwell, Geeveston, Dover and Bridport. The warning for King Island and Furneaux Islands districts is cancelled.

Damaging westerly winds of 60 to 70 km/h with gusts around 100 km/h are likely, with gusts around 120 km/h possible for elevated locations in the west coast and adjacent southern and central parts. In the northeast: damaging westerly winds of 55 to 65 km/h with isolated gusts to 100 km/h possible, including elevated areas. Recorded gusts include 115 km/h at Mount Read, 111 km/h at Scotts Peak Dam, 102 km/h at Low Rocky Point and 109 km/h at Hartz Mountain.
Timeline
Winds begin to contract towards southern parts from around midnight tonight and ease by sunrise Friday. Damaging winds expected to ease along the west coast north of Strahan later this afternoon, contract to the south and southwest by late this evening, and ease during Friday morning. The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Thursday.
