Alert Details
Severe Weather Warning (IDW21037) issued by the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) at 4:05 pm AWST Friday, 7 August 2026. The warning is classified as high severity and remains in effect until 17:05 UTC on 7 August 2026.
Affected Areas
Parts of the Great Southern, South Coastal and South East Coastal forecast districts in Western Australia. Locations that may be affected include Albany, the Stirling Ranges, Esperance, Bremer Bay and Hopetoun.
What You Should Do
If outside, find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. Close curtains and blinds and stay inside away from windows. Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. If boating, swimming or surfing, leave the water. Be alert for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris. Treat fallen power lines as live. Assess home, car and property for damage and take photos for insurance. For significant damage such as a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
Expected Conditions
Damaging wind gusts around 90 km/h are possible near Albany and about the Stirling Ranges on Saturday afternoon, moving eastwards to Esperance during Saturday late afternoon and evening. The strongest wind gusts are expected to occur with showers and thunderstorms.
