Alert Details
Severe Weather Warning (IDV21037) issued by the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) at 10:41 am Tuesday, 18 August 2026. The warning is classified as high severity and remains in effect until 9:41 am Tuesday, 18 August 2026 (AEST).
Affected Areas
The warning covers parts of Central, North Central, West and South Gippsland, and North East forecast districts in Victoria. Locations that may be affected include Melbourne, Yarra Glen, Mt Baw Baw, Rosebud, and parts of the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas, as well as the central ranges.

Expected Conditions
Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible throughout the central ranges from early Wednesday morning. These winds may extend into Melbourne and parts of the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas after sunrise.
Timeline
A strong northerly flow is forecast to develop Wednesday morning ahead of a trough crossing Victoria. Winds will then tend northwesterly and ease during the afternoon. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Tuesday.
