Residents are strongly urged to stay indoors until weather conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in multiple layers of clothing to maintain body heat and cover all exposed skin to reduce the risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat are recommended to prevent the loss of body heat.

Officials recommend delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, motorists should exercise extreme caution as visibilities may drop below a quarter mile due to falling and blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult to impossible.

Expected Conditions

Heavy snow is expected throughout the warning period. Three-day snow accumulations are projected as follows:

  • Above 8,000 feet: Exceeding 3 feet
  • Above 7,000 feet: 1.5 to 2.5 feet
  • Down to 6,000 feet: 8 to 16 inches

Wind gusts could reach as high as 70 mph, which may cause tree damage. Snowfall rates are expected to increase Tuesday morning and persist into early Wednesday morning.

The Winter Storm Warning is effective immediately and is scheduled to remain in effect until 10:00 PM PST on Wednesday, February 18.
