The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Tornado Warning for portions of south central, west central, and southwestern Indiana. The alert was triggered by a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado, with radar-indicated rotation detected.

Affected Areas

The warning covers the following geographic regions:

  • Western Monroe County in south central Indiana
  • Southeastern Owen County in west central Indiana
  • Northeastern Greene County in southwestern Indiana

Specific locations impacted include Bloomington, Bloomfield, Ellettsville, Stinesville, Indiana University, Solsberry, Smithville, Freedom, and Whitehall.

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. Mobile homes in the path of this storm will be damaged or destroyed.

  • Hazards: Tornado and ping pong ball size hail (up to 1.50 inches).
  • Impacts: Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles is expected, and tree damage is likely.
  • Storm Movement: As of 6:39 PM EST, the storm was located near Bloomfield, or 20 miles west of Bloomington, moving east at 40 mph.
