The National Weather Service has issued a Storm Warning for New Jersey coastal waters from Sandy Hook to Great Egg Inlet, effective Sunday afternoon through Monday.

A Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ. The alert is effective for a window beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing through Monday afternoon.

Affected Areas

The warning covers the following coastal regions out to 20 nautical miles:

  • Coastal waters from Sandy Hook to Manasquan Inlet, NJ
  • Coastal waters from Manasquan Inlet to Little Egg Inlet, NJ
  • Coastal waters from Little Egg Inlet to Great Egg Inlet, NJ

What You Should Do

Mariners are advised to take immediate precautions. The NWS recommends that mariners remain in port, alter course, and/or secure their vessels for severe conditions. The response level for this event is categorized as “Avoid.”

Expected Conditions

Residents and mariners in the affected areas should prepare for the following hazards:

  • Winds: North winds between 35 to 45 knots, with gusts reaching up to 55 knots.
  • Seas: Significant wave heights ranging from 13 to 18 feet.
  • Impacts: Storm force winds and hazardous seas are expected to capsize or damage vessels and significantly reduce visibility.

Timeline

The Storm Warning is officially in effect from 4:00 PM EST Sunday, February 22, until 1:00 PM EST Monday, February 23. While the storm force winds are expected Sunday afternoon, hazardous marine conditions could begin as early as mid-morning Sunday.
