Storm Warning Issued for Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior

A Storm Warning and a Gale Warning have been issued by the National Weather Service in Duluth, MN. These alerts cover the coastal waters of Lake Superior along the Minnesota North Shore.

The warning affects the following geographic regions:
- Grand Portage to Grand Marais, MN
- Grand Marais to Taconite Harbor, MN
- Taconite Harbor to Silver Bay Harbor, MN
- Silver Bay Harbor to Two Harbors, MN
What You Should Do
Mariners are advised to take immediate precautions. The National Weather Service recommends that mariners remain in port, alter course, and/or secure their vessels for severe conditions to prevent damage or capsizing.
Expected Conditions
Conditions will intensify in two phases:
- Gale Warning Phase: Northeast winds of 20 to 30 knots with gusts up to 45 knots. Waves are expected to reach up to 3 feet.
- Storm Warning Phase: East winds of 25 to 35 knots with gusts increasing to 50 knots. Waves are expected to build to between 2 and 5 feet.
Impacts include storm-force winds and hazardous waves that can capsize or damage vessels and significantly reduce visibility.

- Gale Warning: In effect from noon today, February 17, until 9:00 PM CST this evening.
- Storm Warning: In effect from 9:00 PM CST this evening until 12:00 PM CST Wednesday, February 18.
