A Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mount Holly NJ. This alert indicates that storm-force winds and hazardous marine conditions are imminent or occurring in the specified coastal regions.

Affected Areas

The warning covers the following geographic regions out to 20 nautical miles:

  • Coastal waters from Great Egg Inlet to Cape May, NJ
  • Coastal waters from Cape May, NJ to Cape Henlopen, DE
  • Coastal waters from Cape Henlopen to Fenwick Island, DE

Mariners are urged to take immediate safety precautions. The NWS advises that mariners should remain in port, alter course to avoid the storm, and/or secure their vessels for severe conditions. Navigating in these conditions is extremely dangerous.

  • Winds: North winds sustained at 35 to 45 knots, with gusts reaching up to 55 knots.
  • Seas: Significant wave heights of 10 to 15 feet are expected.
  • Impacts: Storm-force winds and hazardous seas are likely to capsize or damage vessels and will significantly reduce visibility.

The Storm Warning is officially in effect from 4:00 PM EST Sunday, February 22, until 1:00 PM EST Monday, February 23. While the storm-force winds are expected to begin Sunday afternoon, additional details from the NWS indicate that hazardous marine conditions could begin as early as mid-morning Sunday.
