The National Weather Service (NWS) Anchorage AK has issued a Storm Warning and a Heavy Freezing Spray Warning for the coastal waters of the Northern Gulf of Alaska. The alert is in effect from Wednesday morning through early Thursday morning.
Affected Areas
The warning specifically covers the region from Marmot Island to Sitkinak, extending from 15 to 85 nautical miles (NM) offshore. This includes the coastal waters for the Northern Gulf of Alaska Coast up to 100 NM out, encompassing areas near Kodiak Island and Cook Inlet.

Mariners and residents in the affected coastal zones are advised to avoid the area during the warning period. The combination of high winds and heavy freezing spray creates extremely hazardous conditions for maritime travel.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly starting Tuesday night and peaking on Wednesday:
- Wind: Northwest winds starting at 35 knots, increasing to 45 knots Tuesday night, and reaching 50 knots on Wednesday and Wednesday night.
- Seas: Wave heights will range from 14 feet on Tuesday night, peaking at 18 feet on Wednesday.
- Hazards: Heavy freezing spray is expected throughout Wednesday and Wednesday night.
