The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central St. Landry Parish in central Louisiana. The alert was issued at 9:12 PM CST on March 7 and remains in effect until midnight.

The warning specifically covers central St. Landry Parish. Impacted locations that will experience flash flooding include:
- Opelousas
- Sunset
- Port Barre
- Washington
- Grand Coteau
- Lawtell

Residents are urged to follow the safety mantra: “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads. Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is significantly harder to recognize the dangers of flooding and rising water.
Expected Conditions
According to Doppler radar, thunderstorms are producing heavy rain across the warned area. As of 9:12 PM, between 2 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible, and flash flooding is either ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Hazards include flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
