The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Somerset Levels and Moors, warning of potential flooding near the River Yeo and River Parrett, including risks to the Westover Trading Estate.
Alert Details
A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Wessex area, specifically covering the River Yeo and Parrett, The Levels. This alert indicates that considerable water remains on the Somerset Levels and Moors following recent rainfall.
Affected Areas
The alert covers locations and moors near the River Yeo, River Parrett, Kings Sedgemoor Drain, and River Sowy in Somerset. Low-lying land and roads are expected to be most affected, particularly the road at the south end of the Westover Trading Estate. What You Should Do
Residents and commuters are advised to take care and avoid walking, cycling, or driving through flood water. Do not put yourself or others at risk. Environment Agency field teams are currently clearing debris screens and checking rivers for blockages to mitigate the impact.
Expected Conditions
Pumping has resumed at the Westover pumping station, and the Parrett Relief Channel is being utilized as river and water levels allow. While rain is expected to ease in Somerset following Sunday morning’s rainfall, a new weather system on Monday may bring additional periods of rain, though totals are not forecast to be high. Drier conditions are anticipated for Tuesday and Wednesday.
