The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Alert (Severity Level 3) for the River Lavant. This alert follows weeks of persistent rainfall that has left river levels high, particularly in the Graylingwell area.
Affected Areas
The alert covers the River Lavant in West Sussex within the Solent and South Downs area. Specific locations identified as at risk include Graylingwell, Sheepwash Lane, Pook Lane, the Green, and various bridges across the river in East Lavant. The Environment Agency is currently operating structures in Westhampnett as part of the Flood Alleviation Scheme.

Residents are advised to avoid putting themselves or others at risk. Specifically, motorists and pedestrians should avoid roads known to flood, such as Sheepwash Lane. Any blockages in the river should be reported immediately to the Environment Agency at 0800 80 70 60.
Expected Conditions
While little rain is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, river levels are not expected to fall significantly. A forecast of 10 to 20mm of rain on Thursday and Friday is expected to cause minor flooding of fields, roads, and gardens. A less likely but possible scenario involving 30mm of rain could lead to isolated property flooding.
