The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for Hambledon due to high groundwater levels causing cellar flooding, sewer issues, and the closure of Fareham Road.
Alert Details
The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Alert (Severity Level 3) for groundwater flooding in Hambledon. This alert is currently active due to high groundwater levels within the Solent and South Downs area.
Affected Areas
The alert is specifically focused on the village of Hambledon in Hampshire. Specific geographic impacts include:
- Fareham Road: Currently closed due to flooding.
- East Street: Water is reported to be flowing onto the road on the north side.
- Whitedale Farm: Borehole monitoring site for the local area.
What You Should Do
Residents in the warning area are advised to take the following actions:
- Prepare and deploy property resilience measures.
- Ensure that all basement or cellar pumps are in good working order and operational.
- Be aware of overflowing manholes caused by groundwater infiltrating the sewer system.
Expected Conditions
Groundwater levels in Hambledon are currently high but are beginning to fall slowly. Data from the borehole at Whitedale Farm indicates the level has dropped by 50cm over the last week. Despite this slow recession, widespread cellar flooding is still expected. Only small amounts of rainfall are forecast for the period between Thursday, March 5, 2026, and Monday, March 9, 2026, which should allow levels to continue their gradual decline.
