Vehicle Recalls high NHTSA · · United States

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 604,533 vehicles due to windshield wiper motors that may fail, potentially reducing visibility and increasing crash risks.

What Happened

Ford Motor Company (Ford) has issued a recall for several vehicle models due to a defect in the windshield wiper motor. According to the report, the motor may fail, which prevents the windshield wipers from operating properly.

Which Products Are Affected

The recall involves approximately 604,533 units. The following makes and models from the 2020-2022 model years are affected:

  • Ford: Escape (2020-2022), Explorer (2020-2022)
  • Lincoln: Aviator (2020-2022), Corsair (2020-2022)

What You Should Do

Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s internal identification number for this recall is 26S14. Authorized dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the front wiper motors as necessary, free of charge.

Interim notification letters informing owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed on March 9, 2026. A second letter will be sent once the final remedy is available, which is anticipated in May 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) became searchable on the NHTSA website as of March 4, 2026.

Why This Matters

Windshield wipers are critical for maintaining clear visibility during rain or snow. Wipers that fail to operate properly can significantly reduce a driver’s field of vision, thereby increasing the risk of a motor vehicle crash.
