TheKiddoSpace Recalls Children's Handwriting Practice Kits Due to Lead Exposure Risk
TheKiddoSpace is recalling approximately 19,700 handwriting practice kits because the pen nibs contain lead levels exceeding the federal ban, posing a toxic risk to children.
What Happened
TheKiddoSpace has issued a recall for its children’s handwriting practice kits because the nibs of the pens included in the sets contain lead levels that exceed the federal lead content ban. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues. No injuries have been reported to date.
Which Products Are Affected
This recall involves approximately 19,700 TheKiddoSpace-branded handwriting practice kits sold online at TheKiddoSpaceStore.com and Amazon.com from February 2024 through February 2025. The affected products include:
- Block Handwriting Kits: Four reusable books with animal images on the covers (alphabet/bunny, numbers/frog, math/cow, and drawing/elephant). These were sold with black pens, colored pen grips (blue, green, yellow, purple, pink, and red), and pen refills. The storage box and blue/white book covers are printed with “TheKiddoSpace” logo and “Handwriting Practice Kit.”
- Cursive Handwriting Kits: Three reusable books (letters, words, and sentences) featuring an image of an open book on the cover. These were sold with black pens, colored pen grips, and pen refills. The storage box and blue/white book covers are printed with “TheKiddoSpace” logo and “Cursive Practice Kit.”
What You Should Do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled handwriting kits and take the pens and refills away from children. To receive free replacement pens and refills (including shipping), contact TheKiddoSpace at [email protected] or visit their website at www.thekiddospacestore.com and click on “Product Safety Recalls.”
Consumers will be required to dispose of the original pens and refills in accordance with local and state regulations and must send a photo of the disposed products to the company to facilitate the replacement process.
Why This Matters
This recall is significant because the product violates the federal lead content ban. Lead exposure in children can lead to serious, long-term health complications, and the presence of lead in a product designed for educational use by children represents a high safety risk.
