Alert Details
The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a Moderate Flood Warning for the Thomson River and Cooper Creek, and a Minor Flood Warning for the Barcoo River. This update, Flood Warning Number 51, was issued at 12:14 pm AEST on Sunday, 22 February 2026.

- Thomson River: Camoola Park, Longreach, Stonehenge, and Jundah.
- Barcoo River: Isisford and Retreat.

What You Should Do
Residents in the affected areas are advised to monitor local conditions and stay updated as upstream flows continue to move through the river systems. The BOM will refine peak forecasts as upstream peaks are observed. Additionally, a Severe Weather Warning for Heavy Rainfall is currently active for the far lower reaches of the Cooper Creek catchment.
Expected Conditions
Moderate to heavy rainfall over the past several days has led to significant river level rises.
- Thomson River: At Longreach, the river is currently at 3.76 m and rising, with a potential moderate flood level of 4.30 m expected by Tuesday. Stonehenge is estimated to be above minor flood levels and may reach a moderate level of 3.00 m on Monday. Camoola Park may reach 4.00 m (moderate flood level) on Sunday afternoon.
- Cooper Creek: Minor flooding is occurring at Windorah (Main Channel), with moderate flooding possible from late Sunday.
- Barcoo River: Minor flooding is ongoing at Isisford and Retreat, with renewed rises possible over the next week.
