Minor flooding is currently impacting several locations across Queensland, including:

  • Burdekin River: Burdekin Falls Dam, Dalbeg, Clare, and Inkerman Bridge (Burdekin Bridge)
  • Cape River: Taemas (where flooding has now eased below minor levels)

What You Should Do

Residents and travelers in the affected regions are urged to take the following safety precautions:

  • Do not drive, walk, swim, or play in floodwater as it is dangerous.
  • Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams, and waterways.
  • Obey all road closure signs.
  • Plan ahead to ensure you do not have to drive on flooded roads.

Expected Conditions

Moderate to heavy rainfall from earlier in the week has caused significant river level rises. Current conditions include:

  • Suttor River at St Anns: Currently at 4.84 m and falling; expected to drop below the minor flood level of 4.00 m by Saturday evening.
  • Burdekin Dam: Currently at 3.34 m and steady; expected to remain above the 3.00 m minor flood level through Saturday.

  • Cape River at Taemas: Currently at 4.66 m and falling, which is below the 5.00 m minor flood level.

Timeline

River levels are expected to continue easing over the next few days. However, further showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the catchment area, which may prolong the time it takes for river levels to return to normal. The current warning remains in effect with an expiry window set for March 2, 2026.
