Rivian Recalls R1T and R1S Vehicles Over Seat Belt Fastener Issue
Rivian is recalling certain 2022-2026 R1T and R1S vehicles due to improperly tightened seat belt retractor bolts that could increase injury risk during a crash.
What Happened
Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) has issued a recall for specific R1T and R1S vehicles. The recall was initiated because the bolts securing the second-row driver and passenger side seat belt retractor assemblies may have been improperly tightened during the manufacturing process.
Which Products Are Affected
The recall affects approximately 869 units. The following models and years are included in the recall scope:
- Rivian R1T: Model years 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025
- Rivian R1S: Model years 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026
What You Should Do
Rivian will inspect the affected vehicles and tighten the seat belt retractor bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on March 9, 2026. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. When contacting the manufacturer, owners should refer to Rivian’s internal recall number, FSAM-1795.
Why This Matters
An improperly secured seat belt retractor may fail to adequately restrain a seat occupant during a collision. This malfunction significantly increases the risk of injury to passengers during a crash.
